JFP Grand Opening

I think it shocked our neighbors a bit, it actually shocked us as well – Susan Harding a reporter from KATU, the local ABC channel called yesterday and said that she would be at our house at noon to do a story on the grand opening of the Jubilee Food Pantry.  We were live on the 4, 5 and 6pm news!

We had such a collection of friends and family gathered in our garage that we could have possibly scared some folks away.  We had 2 families show up to get some much needed groceries.  I didn’t write we “only” had 2 families. . . . because those were the two families the Lord called us to pour into last night.  We fully understand (and am very thankful for) the fact that this sort of thing is a word-of-mouth ministry.  People need to trust us first and the only way some folks will trust you is if you have been around for a while.  So we will continue to practice trust.  We know that our numbers will grow and we are glad for the gradual growth, it will give us time to prepare and get things figured out.

No mo’ funky chicken

This is our fantastic, amazing, huge, brand new, freezer that someone has so generously bought for us!  It was delivered to our door yesterday afternoon and is now humming away in the food pantry.  It holds one large bag of popsicles and we can’t wait to fill it with more tasty treats.

Thank you, thank you to our friend who has shared with us!  You have truly blessed many through this gift.

Jubilee Despensa de Comida

I can’t blog in Spanish, actually, other than a few curse words I’ve learned from teaching at Woodburn High School for the past eight years, I can’t speak it either.  However, we are receiving help with translation and interpretation and it is very important to us that we do everything we can to help make folks who don’t happen to speak English feel comfortable.  Below is our Jubilee Food Pantry logo in Spanish that a few of our volunteers pitched in to complete.

We are also working on translating our brochure into Spanish as well.  If our desire is to become an actual community, we must actively and creatively seek to develop that community.  One way we can do that is by seeking reconciliation.  To achieve community we must be able to communicate.

Hillside Fellowship Church

We now have 7 Covenant Congregations!  Thank you to Zach and the community of believers at Hillside for being willing to partner with us as we reach out to folks in our neighborhood, town and larger community.  It is so encouraging to see a group of pastors work together, cross denominational lines and develop a message that tells folks that Jesus loves them.  Thank you Hubbard and Aurora pastors!
